You Know Those Surprise Items?

—- The Veggie list for December 5, 2009 is just below this entry
Visitors who read the veggie list on my website regularly probably don’t notice that at the bottom of that bulleted list it says that I might have a surprise or two on offer for the Saturday market. Not that I expect anyone to get that far, heck I offered millions of dollars to visitors in one entry and guess how many people asked for their cash? That’s right – NONE! Although I did have someone respond to my suggestion that if a person read so far that they would qualify to come out during the blistering summer and help weed – and this one guy wanted to do just that. In another post I offered weeds for sale, strangely not one person asked for a bag. I’m tempted to offer free cases of beer (yeah, I grow beer too, the German branch of Monsanto genetically engineered a bush that grows organic beer with an edible container, it’s really amazing but I’m under a confidentiality agreement that doesn’t allow me to share it yet, although I hope to have it for sale next season) but I could be near certain that some kind of alcohol radar would have people driving in from Blythe, California over 100 miles away to get free brew.
But that’s not what I’m supposed to be writing about here this evening, I wanted to blog about Fried Green Tomatoes: wasn’t Kathy Bates just great in that movie? I’m not here to do movie reviews either, actually - I wanted to let you in on a little secret – that surprise or two. By now I think you might know where this is going, maybe the photo was the first hint, but I’m thinking at this point you probably want to know more about my beer bush – ask for a farm tour, maybe I’ll show you, maybe I won’t. The surprise item is… you guessed it, GREEN TOMATOES. I don’t have a lot. For those aficionados of this southern treat of crispy hot, fried green tomatoes, this Saturday is your opportunity, but arrive early!
