It’s Broccoli Season / Vegetable List 1/12/13

The above picture shows a closer look at the broccoli crowns growing on Tonopah Rob’s farm.

It’s almost kick off time and the Farm Stand reopens Jan. 12, 2013 and broccoli crowns will be piled high into the linen lined wooden crates.  A week or two later, SnoBall Cauliflower will neighbor a crate or two on the tables and the sweetest carrots in the world will have a “Reserved” sign waiting in their honor.   Other sweet delicious root crops will face the isles too.  The Tonopah Salad Mix is stunning.  Perfect leaves of mustard’s, Japanese greens like mizuna, tatsoi and a few of the other choys make up this delicious and highly nutritious greens mix.  These and so much more will be ready for harvest so make room in the fridge.

I hope you have cold covers for this next week. Supposed to drop below freezing here and I’m in the middle of the heat island.

yes, the frost cloth is out and all is covered. Pray for the farm, keep it warm enough to prevent damage.

that cold frost we had in the last 2 weeks killed my heirloom tomatoes and eggplant leaves that were in a homemade 8x4x4 greenhouse…worked great till the freeze…I picked all the tomatoes which are now turning red after sitting for the last week and a half….but the broccolis are loven the cold weather
